Upland businessman Mike Morrell soon will be enjoying a new and challenging role in life. After coming out on top in a seven-candidate battle for the Republican nomination for the 63rd Assembly District, Mike is cruising to a November win in a traditionally Republican seat.
Throughout the primary, Morrell remained true to his belief system despite a vicious attack from another candidate. He ran a positive, clean campaign that embraced all that the Republican Party has stood for in the past.
This is Morrell’s second try for the 63rd Assembly District. In 2004, Morrell and Elia Pirozzi divided the West End vote, handing the Republican nomination to East End candidate Bill Emmerson. Morrell came in third that year.
Morrell has used the six years since his last run to hone his political skills. He developed a strong grass roots base, showed an ability to fund raise effectively, and communicated the message Republicans want to hear. His down-to-Earth approach, combined with a high level of integrity and common sense, has garnered support from both the Tea Party ultra-conservatives and the Republican elite.
Morrell moved to the Inland Empire in 1977 and started his own real estate business in 1989. He is currently president of Provident Real Estate. He will be one of the few officeholders with real-life experience in creating jobs, meeting a payroll, and keeping a business afloat during economic downturns.
Politically, Morrell can best be described as a “Reagan Republican,” a moniker he wears with pride. Morrell is a strong believer in smaller government and lower taxes. He recently received the endorsement of the prestigious Howard Jarvis Taxpayer’s Association.
Mike credits his wife of 32 years, Joanie, with his strong sense of morality, having become a born-again Christian early on in their relationship due to the example she set. Mike is a member of Calvary Chapel in Chino. Mike and Joanie have three children and recently became grandparents for the first time.
